Everyone wants to look the best they can and we all know how important it the skin is when it comes to looking amazing. Skincare products are available for us to remove any fine wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks and every other imperfection on the skin we may have.

There are so many different products available on the market and when we finally find the product that works wonders on our face and body, we realize we don’t really know how much of the product we’re supposed to put.

Some people “bathe” in creams and lotions and others say you should put only a thin layer of ointments. To answer the question as old as the cosmetics, we decided to do a bit of research and help you with the decision.

Here we are going to talk about skincare, and how much of your favorite cream you should use when putting it on your body.

Cleanser

Cleansing is extremely important if you want to remove cellular debris, makeup and pollution particles from your skin.

Experts say that the optimum amount of cleanser is about the size of a 5p coin. In case you’re using salicylic acid with the cleanser, then you should leave it for a few minutes to give it time to work. Be careful not to use too much, you will just waste the product and with that, you will have to buy a new one really soon. On the other hand, if you use too little, you risk skin dehydration, cellular build-up, accelerated aging and congestion.

Eye Cream

As you already know, the skin around your eyes is really delicate, and you don’t want to overload it. Always use the eye cream at night and apply it with your ring finger – it’s weak and with that perfect for applying the product delicately.

Eye creams are really concentrated, so putting product in the size no bigger than a grain of rice is more than enough. People who put too much of eye cream risk congestion and little white bumps called milia may form around the eye area. However, if you want your skin to be nice and soft, you shouldn’t use too little as well. The area around your eyes may become dehydrated and look creased if you don’t put enough product.

Serum

As you probably know, you should apply the serum after cleansing your face and before moisturizing. They are made to penetrate deep into the skin and deliver vitamin C and antioxidants to make your skin look and feel better.

Garnier advises that you don’t need more than a coffee bean-sized amount of serum to get the wanted effect. Be careful, the active ingredients that are in the serum may cause irritation if you use it too much. On the same note, if you don’t use enough of the serum, you won’t experience the benefits of the active ingredients.

Sunscreen and Skin Care products with SPF

Most of the people don’t use sunscreen as much as they should. If you are only using makeup that contains SPF, you should know that that’s not enough, unless you put several layers of it and reapply it every hour.

Start with a sun protector with an SPF between 30 and 50. The optimum amount is a 10p coin-sized amount that covers your whole face and neck. Don’t worry about applying too much of these products, there is no such thing as too much when it comes to SPF. On the other hand, if you use too little of the product, you risk skin cancer and accelerated aging.

Retinol

Retinols deliver exfoliating and antiaging benefits. They may cause some initial irritation, so start slow and give your skin enough time.

Follow the label instructions, which usually are one small pump, two times per week. Raise the amount and frequency slowly and aim for nightly use.

With high-quality retinol, you won’t have to use more than a small pea-sized drop. Concentrations of 0.5 to 1% will give you the most benefit. You should know that if you use too much of these products, your skin may become flaky, itchy and red. Don’t use too little as well, you won’t be able to experience the anti-aging and anti-blemish benefits.

Exfoliator

You need to exfoliate two times per week to remove dead and redundant skin and to reveal newer and healthier skin cells. You should know that if you overuse exfoliants you may cause sensitivity and irritation to your skin.

Experts say that product in the size of an almond is enough to get the job done and minimize the risks. There are many women who think that exfoliating every day will be good for their skin, however, too much of this product may cause redness, dryness, irritation and stinging. Give your skin enough time to recover if you use too much exfoliator.

Be careful not to forget to exfoliate as well, since your skin will be dull, congested and flaky. You also risk cellular build-up.

Night Cream

These creams are packed with ingredients that nourish, hydrate and fortify your skin. They work with your skin’s natural evening renewal process.

When buying a night cream, look for products with antioxidants, vitamins, and retinol, or hyaluronic acid for an anti-aging boost.

The experts advise using a 5p-sized amount. Using too much of the product may lead to congestion and breakouts. And if you don’t want your skin not to look dull, taunt and dry, don’t use too little of the cream.

Other products

Let’s talk about the right amount of skincare products when it comes to other types of cosmetics:

  • Facewash – Apply a dime-sized amount to create a thin layer of the cleanser on the face
  • Toner – Apply a toner generously to a cotton swab (4-5 drops). Make sure it’s fully saturated
  • Daytime moisturizer – A few drops of a gel moisturizer to a pea-sized amount of a heavier moisturizer
  • Acne treatment – Use a pea-sized amount on the affected area
  • Mask – Depending on the type of mask, use between a dime- to a quarter-sized dollop (an amount that will allow you to cover your face)

The instructions on the package usually tell you how much of the product you should be using, but you should listen to your body first. Make sure you use creams that are for your skin type and be careful not to overuse them.

Invest in good cosmetics, it is really important to do that so you don’t get any rashes and allergies. It will be best if you consult a dermatologist first before trying out new cosmetics. However, if you found a new type of cream you just have to buy, always test it on the inside of your arm first. Rub it on your skin and wait for at least a few hours so you can see if you are allergic to the product. Never use face creams or lotions before testing them out and always buy trusted brands.

How much skincare products do you use? Do you use the same amount for every cream and lotion or does it depend on the formula?
