Tassie Cameron has updated on the status of Rookie Blue Season 7, hinting that a renewal could hinge on the show’s current (Season 6) run on ABC.
Rookie Blue Season 7 Renewal Decision ‘Imminent’
Speaking to TVLine, the exec producer admitted that the Canadian police drama’s future remains uncertain, but — with international performance/revenue often impacting the lifespan of a show – suggested that ABC could sway Global’s decion:
“We haven’t heard anything about a renewal. If it does return, it will be in [producer/writer] Sherry White’s capable and talented and charming hands… I think the writers are writing scripts and working, but it’s hard to really get momentum until we’ve heard. With any luck, it will do well [on ABC] and somebody will give Sherry a call.”
While Rookie Blue Season 7 would have to be renewed first by Global, and could continue without ABC (as has proven), having a US broadcaster on board can be a major advantage. To that end, producers Shaw Media recently cited finance as a potential obstacle to Season 7, so the international factor could prove pivotal.
